New graduate Connor Paycheck’s journey as a musician
By Lily Belcher
Connor Paycheck started writing stories in college. It came easily to him and it was something fun for him and his friends to do. His love of music merged with his love of stories, and he began to turn his paragraphs into songs.
“I’ve always loved music and rap, so it started out as a comedy that my friend and I did in college. We did a song about being a redneck and driving tractors and stuff. stupid, ”Paycheck explained.
After college his songs took on a serious tone and he started writing about the real things he had to face in his life. His music has become an easy way for him to express himself.
“If I had to choose one [artist that influenced me] … Juice WRLD has changed my life in so many ways through inspiration and just listening to their music when I have a bad day, ”said Paycheck.
Juice WRLD’s lyrics, “If I can, then you can too,” motivated Paycheck to stay on the right path in life and pursue his dream of becoming a singer. He does what he does because he wants people to enjoy his music and be “free” when they come to his shows.
He continued to write songs and used the money he initially saved for college to turn his room into a studio and take professional classes on how to improve as a singer and songwriter.
In January, he signed with Symphonic Distribution in Tampa and was just hired as an assistant engineer at Hands in Motion Music School and Productions. He said he takes the songs he writes and records in his bedroom and sends them to Symphonic Distribution to put them on Spotify and the music streaming services, so they can handle the business side while Paycheck manages the. contents.
Paycheck said his favorite song he wrote was “My Piano Song”.
“It’s basically a poem that I wrote. I wrote it on the piano and recorded it on my own. It was the first song I produced on my own, which is why it’s my favorite, but all of my favorite songs are unreleased, ”Paycheck said.
