Jon Batiste dominated the 2022 Grammys, the star took home a total of 5 awards at the star-studded event. It was nominated in 11 categories and won five trophies in total, including Album of the Year, the night’s biggest prize for We are at the 64th Grammy Awards on Sunday.

Jon comes from a family of musicians

Batiste is a member of a New Orleans musical dynasty made up of his father Michael and many others. Other family members include Lionel Batiste of the Treme Brass Band, Milton Batiste of the Olympia Brass Band, and Russell Batiste Jr.

Jon started playing musical instruments such as percussion and drums at the age of 8 with his brothers in the Batiste Brothers Band, co-founded by his father. He turned to the piano at 11 on the advice of his mother. It would not be wrong to say that music runs in the genes of the Batiste family.

During an interaction with the publication of his alma mater, The Juilliard Journal, Jon spilled the wick on his acting career. He said, “Well, I was just trying to find a way to get my music on the show, and the producers asked me to play it and test it. I was maybe just expecting a cameo or something, but then they asked me to do this recurring role.

He added: “The main character, Antoine Batiste, is based on one of my [extended] family members.” We’d also love to see him shine on the big screen.
